A grassball is basically a large inflatable ball made from a special kind of PVC, inside which is another smaller ball. The balls are connected to each other with nylon ropes and two tunnels, which are used to get inside. The ball’s diameter is 3.2 m and it weighs 90 kg. Safety harnesses are provided inside to strap in the crew.

Its founder was Andrew Akers, who was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s picture of a man inscribed in a circle. Together with his friend, Dwane van der Sluis, they decided to make real the painter’s idea.

How it works ?
The grassball is brought or pushed to the top of a suitable hill and the rider or riders (two) get inside the grassball using the tunnel. They strap themselves in using the special harness. When moving, the grasstronauts can admire the view. The grassball can reach a speed of up to 50 km / h down the slope and it safely reaches a stop on the water surface.

Is it safe?
Yes. Even if it were to rupture when going, or tear on a sharp stone, it will reach a standstill safely and the crew will be able to exit before it is able to deflate. Grassballs can usually be used for at least three more trips down the hill without having to be reflated when smaller tears occur. Before each run from a new hill, the grassball is released without a crew to observe its natural route. We always use safe routes onto water.

Are there any restrictions?
Trips in the grassball cannot be taken by people shorter than 150 cm, as they are too small for the harnesses. Persons younger than 18 only on permission of their legal guardian. Before making a trip, you must sign a health declaration. Grassball is unsuitable for pregnant women or those with health problems.
